Stuff About Leah
1. We met in the hospital, where you had patiently waited until the doctor left the room to make your arrival.
2. Your middle name is Katherine, it means "pure" and you were named after your Daddy's grandma, who was very regal and yet still made everyone else feel like the most special person in the room
3. I've known you since you were too small to even ... sing!
4. We last saw each other about a second ago, discussing the mob.
5. Well... you're no longer the "coaster chicken," so skydiving's a possiblity.
6. First impression: I thought you were amazingly feminine and marveled at your long, beautiful fingers and fingernails.
7. Funny? Oh, yes, and you have always understood how to deliver a good line.
8. Musicals are your favorite, at the top of your lungs.
9. You would most like to: Go to NYC and see a Broadway play
10.What do I think you should do: Um... have 10 children and live next door to your parents.
11. Special talents: You have a vibrant imagination, are a masterful wordsmith, can sing, draw, sew, knit, crochet, make people happy, and understand children. Practically perfect, like Mary Poppins. You also have an ear for foreign languages and seem to learn them easily.

A Reminder to Be Vigilant
The pushing of the Fairness Doctrine, of Hate Crimes, of ENDA, the Employment Non-discrimination Act, all become a firing squad on religious liberty, because they want to silence the Christian voices of this country. People say, “Well, that’s extreme.” Read the legislation. Look at some of the legislation that is coming out of this Congress. Now I would say that I think the Fairness Doctrine and some of these other measures are not going to come as we’re expecting. They’re not gonna come in a big wave, but they’re gonna come in incremental steps hidden in pieces of legislation that we’re gonna have to watch for very, very closely.

Remembering...
My friend posted a wonderful essay on Facebook that her son had written about the Sermon on the Mount. This particular passage is so important to me, because when I was about 12, I read it and determined that I would do just as it said. I tried, but, of course, failed. And I started to notice that NOBODY lived this way. So I figured it must not be true. And that was it for me and Christianity for many years. But, the Truth is that even WANTING to be like Jesus, even recognizing that these things are right and beautiful, shows that the seed of Eternity is planted in our breasts. When we fail, and see others fail, we're driven back to the only One who never fails, who has given us His righteousness as a credit and promises to also be about changing us as we fight the good fight of faith. I love that Tyler is studying this, and that THIS is what his writing assignments are about. May the Lord bless the work of your hands, Shannon.

Saturday's Several
1. Recent reminders of the Lord's faithfulness: My old journals written in the thick of raising children, including so many prayers crying out to the Lord over all the normal trials of childrearing. Seeing now where He is answering those prayers, oh, to my wondering eyes. If I had been more sure of myself, I would not have prayed so much. God used my weakness to bring about His ends: His glory.
2. My heart leaping as we read aloud "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin", and the sweet words restating what I've clung to all these years: that godly character is the heart of True education and is strongest when taught in childhood. (An echo of what we had heard earlier from Lawrence Reed: Good character leads to sound policy -- in any area.)
3. Looking across the room as we read those words in Franklin's book, at my friend, and knowing that she too was hearing it as I was: as a comfort that our labor has not been in vain.
4. That Christ sets an example for us by caring nothing for the opinions of men.
5. That Christ did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
6. That the man the Lord has given me as my "head" is wiser than any other.
7. That one more John Piper fan has joined the ranks and is requesting to borrow books!
8. That my joys and fears and hopes and failings are safely shared with my most trusted friend,my husband.
9. That while decay and scarcity are everywhere in this fallen world, there is still a pattern of fruitfulness and abundance that hasn't been lost, evident in two breathtaking backyard "secret gardens" that different friends have shown me in the past week. (If it had just been one, I might not have gotten the point.) The Lord promises that the fruitfulness and abundance win out -- all creation will be redeemed!
10. The chance to do transcripts again, and the great interviews I have gotten to listen to, including Walter Williams and Janet Parshall.
11. This particular journal entry: "June 5, 2002: We listened to Daddy on the radio. John Jr. said, "Don't you think that Daddy is the best employee at Coral Ridge -- even if he weren't our dad? Daddy doesn't just know a little about a lot -- he knows a LOT about a lot. And all the rest he knows a little about."
